The Curve Shape Is Everything

A single retention number stripped of context is close to useless. What you want to watch is how the curve descends.

A healthy retention curve drops steeply at first, then flattens. The steep early drop is expected and actually fine. Players who weren’t interested were always going to leave. What matters is whether the curve reaches a stable floor. Even a 4% floor at D30 that holds through D60 and D90 indicates you have a genuine retained audience. That’s a game you can build on.

You haven’t found your core audience yet, or you’ve found them and the late-game isn’t holding them. The practical question that follows: is the loss happening before players reach the content you think is sticky, or after?
